We just received our preview copies of the first two releases from Casa Negra Entertainment of remastered Mexican horror classics: CURSE OF THE CRYING WOMAN (LA MALDICION DE LA LLORONA) and THE WITCH'S MIRROR (EL ESPEJO DE LA BRUJA). Forgive us for resorting to cliche, but we guarantee you, you have NEVER seen these films unless you have seen them in these stunning remastered versions. As intimately familiar as we are with both films, watching the Casa Negra restorations was like watching them for the first time. The clarity of the picture, taken from original 35mm print elements, put all other releases to shame. The rich black and white production design is immeasurably enhanced by the careful digital resoration work done here.

Available in either the original Spanish-language soundtrack, or in the English-dubbed K. Gordon Murray version (you can guess which one we ran to...), the soundtracks are also crisp and clear, with every syllable completely comprehensible. Casa Negra even managed to clean up Murray's sometimes-muddy dubbed audio tracks, an astonishing feat by any account. Paul Nagel never sounded so clear!

Needless to say, seeing these beloved genre classics in such pristine condition underlines what fans already knew - these are horror classics, in the best sense of the term. Specifically, K. Gordon Murray buffs have been waiting years for a clean print of THE WITCH'S MIRROR to show up, and here it is in all its glory.

The Casa Negra DVDs are a bargain at any price, with tons of fun features:
